Frequently Asked Questions
Why is grooming important?
I did not understand the full importance of getting your dog groomed until I began grooming, as is probably the same for lots of dog owners. Now, I get to see firsthand how keeping your dog on a consistent grooming schedule can greatly impact their health.
Bathing and brushing your dog regularly will help remove dead or damaged hair and tangles, as well as release and spread healthy natural oils. This also prevents the formation of mats that can constantly pull at the skin and be painful, sometimes even cutting off circulation. I use products that are nourishing for your dog’s specific skin and hair type, helping your pup to look and feel their best by maintaining a healthy coat, skin, nails, and ear cleaning.
Groomers work closely with your dog, carefully checking over their whole body. This can make it easier for us to identify health issues such as skin and ear infections or unusual lumps and bumps, sometimes before pet parents are able to notice.
What can I do to help my dog at home?
What you do at home to prepare your dog for their next groom can be very helpful getting them used to the process and work through their fears. Here are some tips I’ve found helpful:
-If your dog has longer hair: Brush AND comb your dog regularly! Although your dog's coat may seem mat-free on the surface, it is easy for mats to form closer to the skin. Gently brush your dog all over using a slicker brush and then go over the coat again with a greyhound comb, starting at their skin and pulling outward. Combing makes a big difference in making sure the coat tangle-free.
There is a good tutorial on this:

If you have a short-haired dog, using a curry brush will remove some of that shedding hair.
-Run a vibrating toothbrush over your dog. This can mimic that funny feeling of the clippers on their body, helping them to feel more comfortable with that sensation.
-Touch your dog's paws regularly. Many dogs don’t love getting their nails trimmed, but it makes it that much easier on your dog if they are already used to having their paws handled.
*If using a vibrating toothbrush or touching your dog's paws is too stressful for them, stop and feel free to ask me how to break this down into smaller steps.
If there is an aspect of grooming that is more challenging for your dog, talk to me! We may be able to come up with a plan to help them work through it.
Do you accept all dogs?
The Bubbly Puppy would love to accept all dogs, but the salon is on a lower level which involves going up and down a staircase. Therefore, if your dog is over 30 pounds and unable to use stairs, I will not be able to accept them at this time.
Due to health reasons of my own, I cannot currently accept any giant breed dogs (although I love them all!).
*Please note that all dogs are required to be on a 4-8 week schedule (depending on what is appropriate for their coat type).
How much does grooming cost?
Please text or call 774-415-4159 for an estimate of your dog's groom cost.
The Bubbly Puppy provides one-on-one care in an environment designed to ease grooming anxiety. I use high quality products and aim to reduce stress during your dog's groom, which usually requires a bit more time per appointment than your typical grooming salon. I love that I am able to take more time with a dog when needed, and have loved seeing many dogs noticeably enjoying their spaw days! All of this is reflected in the pricing which you'll find may be slightly higher than larger or chain grooming salons, although I truly put effort in to keep prices fair.
Also taken into account is your dog's size, coat condition, and level of grooming anxiety and behavior. All of these variables can differ from dog to dog, making it difficult to pinpoint a price based on size or breed alone. Please contact me for an estimate and I will be happy to discuss your dog's needs.
What can I expect on our first visit?
Feel free to park in the driveway (you will see a sign for a designated parking spot), and please call or text 774-415-4159 upon your arrival. I will then come to your car to greet you and your dog (same for picking up your dog).
I always schedule extra time with your dog for their first visit. I will be getting to know their personality and behavior, and this extra time allows your dog to get to know me and the new environment they are in without pressure. Extra time also lets me work through aspects of grooming that your dog may find difficult in a bigger salon, such as being able to take a more gradual approach with the dryer or nail trimmer should they be nervous.
I will let you know your dog's pickup time at check-in. Please keep in mind that there is a late fee if you do not pick up your pup within 10 minutes of your pick-up time as I am a one person operation and must stay on schedule. If I finish up your dog's service early I will notify you, but there is no pressure to pick them up until their scheduled pick-up time.
*Please note that I will need a signed copy of The Bubbly Puppy's policies and the new client form, as well as current rabies vaccine paperwork before I service any dog.
When should my puppy start getting groomed?
The sooner, the better! The Bubbly Puppy accepts puppies as young as 8 weeks old, but does require proof of rabies vaccine by 16 weeks of age. The sooner puppies can get acclimated to the grooming process, the more likely the process will be less stressful and more relaxing throughout your pup's life. Ask about our puppy package!
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Your dog’s rabies vaccine expiration date (unless you have sent it to me beforehand or I already have it on file). I must also have a signed copy of the policies and client questionnaire before accepting your pup (available to be signed via email or hard-copy). Don’t forget to bring your dog (it’s happened, lol!).
Are walk-ins accepted?
The Bubbly Puppy is by appointment only. Please text or call 774-415-4159 to book an appointment or if you have any questions.
How long will the appointment take?
Appointments typically last anywhere between 1-3.5 hours depending on the coat type and condition, behavior, and size of your dog. I will be able to provide a more accurate estimate after speaking with you.
*I always schedule extra time with first-time clients just in case your dog is nervous and needs some more love, or if their condition requires a little extra TLC.
Do you accept dogs on sedation?
Yes (the only exception is acepromazine), although I will groom without sedation if possible. The sedative must be vet prescribed and must have been used at least one time prior to visiting The Bubbly Puppy to ensure your dog has no adverse effects to the medication. If your dog can walk as normal and isn’t showing signs of drowsiness, I should be able to groom them on sedation.
Does The Bubbly Puppy groom any other animals?
The Bubbly Puppy grooms dogs only. I would love to groom other animals, but don't have the training or experience to do so safely.
